Kanasugi Grocery
Large blue funny masks and a hungry caterpillar object appear in a residential area. Familiar from its unique façade, Kanasugi Grocery is run by a family with a strong spirit of entertaining.
Despite its humorous appearance, Kanasugi Grocery has a long history as a grocery store, having been established about 60 years ago. The current manager's grandfather began selling vegetables grown in then Kanasugi Village in Saitama Prefecture, where his home was located, by bringing them to Sendagi. At that time, he had carried dozens of kilometers of home-grown freshly harvested vegetables by bicycle every day.
Later, the manager's father took over the vegetable production, and although the variety has decreased, several Kanasugi's home-grown vegetables still join the store shelves. The vegetables grown without pesticides are popular among local customers for their rich flavor and delicious taste.
Other popular items are the Shigezo Tofu series. A variety of very reasonably priced, high-quality soy foods are available, from tofu to soy sweets.
Summer is the perfect time to enjoy chilled tofu in Japan. It is fun to compare the many varieties of tofu available at Kanasugi Grocery Store.
