Meat & Deli Satoh
Whenever I walk along Yanaka Ginza, I always have a craving for menchikatsu.
In fact, a crowd always gathers in front of Meat Sato when sales begin at 11:55 a.m. The main attraction is the Yanaka Menchikatsu, their signature product.
The specialty menchikatsu is made with not only domestic beef, but also A5-ranked Wagyu beef. It is deep-fried in a far-infrared fryer using soybean oil (white strained oil) lightly mixed with lard, so it is not sticky even when heated in a microwave oven at home.
In addition to “Yanaka Menchi,” the shop offers a wide variety of fried foods typical of the Showa-era shopping arcade, including “Yanaka Croquettes,” “Ham Katsu,” “Quail Egg Skewers,” and “Fried Horse Mackerel. The homemade roast pork with Japanese pork and their signature sauce is also highly recommended.
The reasonably priced Yanaka menchis, made by a butcher who insists on using only domestic products and selling high-quality meat is a must for those who enjoy eating and walking around in Yanaka.
